I.Introduction

Ps: Good morning teacher!

T: Today we will speak about environmental problems and how they influence nature.

T: Look at the blackboard. There is a saying: "Mankind won't die in a nuclear nightmare, it will suffocate in their own waste" Nils Boor.

Let's discuss this quotation and make short comments.

(Student's comments)

III.Main part

1. Speaking.

T: What is ecology?

P: Ecology is a science how to live, how to survive.

T: What is environment?

P: Environment is everything  around us: houses and trees, rivers and lakes, hills and mountains, woods and wildlife living around and nearby.

T: What is man in this environment?

P: Man is a part of this environment. Man is not master of Nature, man's life depends on it. We should remember: the Earth belongs not only to people, but to all creatures living on it, to plants and flowers, to birds and fish, to animals and insects. If people don't realize the urgency about the ecological problems, they will kill themselves.

T: Thank you. The planet Earth is in great danger. It is suffering from many environmental problems. Have a look at these pictures. What problems do these pictures relate to?

P1: This picture relates to the problem of deforestation because  the man is planting trees.

P2: This picture relates to the problem of pollution because the beach is covered with litter.

P3: This picture relates to the problem of resources in short supply because the man is recycling.

P4: This picture relates to the problem of energy crisis because wind is an alternative source of energy.

T: Thank you. What other environmental problems do we face today?

P: These problems are: the greenhouse effect, global warming, water pollution, air pollution, soil pollution.

T: What possible sollutions can you suggest to these environmental problems?

P1: We must stop cutting down trees, we must grow them and create reserves and national parks.

P2: We must fine people on the spot for dropping rubbish.

P3: We must build recycling factories.

P4: We must encourage people to use public trasport, raise awareness of people.

T: Who do you think must solve these problems?

P1: Every man together with the government and ruling bodies of the world should do everything to solve environmental problems.

T: Which of the problems is our town facing?

P2: It is air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, because we have a metallurgical plant in our town, rubbish problem, the problem of public transport.

2.Listening

T: Now we are going to listen to a dialogue. After listening you will complete the sentences.

Script

Ann: Past industrial activities have polluted some of the land in our city. This land       may be dangerous for people’s health and the environment unless it is cleaned up.

Dan: The world’s population continues to rise, and people want to expect more and            more things. More and more housing is needed. Most people want to own cars. More cars require new roads to be built. The amount of waste and rubbish is increasing. Pollution is the issue of major concern everywhere in the world nowadays.

Ann: Most environmental problems are due to a lack of care over industrial and waste management. Bad industrial practices and accidents released potentially harmful substances into the land or pour them into the rivers. Should we continue like this?

Dan: Definitely not. We need to stop destroying the world and work hard to protect it.

Ann: In many countries this may mean people have to change the way they live.
