Виступ на курсах підвищення кваліфікації ЗОІППО на тему: «Досвід організації роботи літнього мовного табору в Бердянському муніципальному ліцеї Бердянської міської ради в Запорізькій області» Червень 2017 р.
Dear coachers! Dear colleagues!
I’m going to present you our experience of organizing Summer Language Camp for our students at Berdiansk Municipal Lyceum. It has been held for the third time this summer. Language Camp is a way of organizing students’ leisure during their summer holidays while developing their vital skills, the so-called 4 C’s, that is
Communication
Collaboration
Critical thinking
Creativity.
True, learning other languages and understanding the culture of the people who speak them is a 21st Century Skill that is vital to success in the global environment in which our students will live and work.
What’s more, Summer English Camp is an opportunity to do things outside the box of a traditional classroom. There is no single recipe for a successful camp. A lot depends on what you’re comfortable with and willing to try. Fellow camp teachers and volunteers can serve as resources and provide inspiration along the way.
Now, what makes our camp successful? Perhaps, the differences from a traditional classroom. And what are they? The relaxed atmosphere, the location of the activities and the choice of them, the level of students’ autonomy as well as different teachers! And this time we’re expecting to meet our British volunteer, who will stay with us for the last week of the camp!
If asked, what my favourite activities are, I’d say Fair Day when you can buy home-made cakes and other tasty things along with a wide range of services like renting bikes, fortune telling, psychologist’s advice and what not! Some students would say they enjoyed Treasure Hunt on Pirates’ Day or Fairy-tale Day when they role-played their favourite tales but in some unusual genre! Quest Day is also a popular choice, both for the staff and students!
Now, as a participant of coaching sessions for teachers involved in the GoGlobal Gocamps Project, I would also like to share some information dealing with both theoretical aspects of guiding students at language camp and some practical advice. Let’s have a look at this slide!
The funniest thing is that at the beginning of the camp everybody is incredibly tired after the hard schooling year, even exhausted, and completely reluctant to do things! But! At the end of the camp nobody wants to leave and say good-bye to each other for the whole summer. Everybody’s excited and happy, and willing to get more fun! And that’s absolutely rewarding, something which inspires!
And what do you think are the keys to success of our camp now? The same here! That’s Communication, Collaboration and Creativity, which work! Everybody of us really needs inspiration, motivation, encouragement, which makes us efficient and creative! Thank you for our interaction!
